Description: Vaspin (Visceral Adipose-Specific SERPIN) is a newly described adipokine. Vaspin has three beta -sheets, nine alpha-helices, and one central loop; the structure is part of the set of distinctive features that are descriptive of Serpin family members. Vaspin is also a unique insulin sensitizing adipocytokine in obesity. A recent publication indicates that Vaspin mRNA expression in visceral fat is positively correlated with BMI and percent of body fat. and could be associated with parameters of obesity, insulin resistance, and glucose metabolism. These findings suggest a potential clinical use for Vaspin in ameliorating certain aberrations seen in the obesity metabolic syndrome.

Description: MSI2 contains two conserved tandem RNA recognition motifs. Similar proteins in other species function as RNA-binding proteins and play central roles in posttranscriptional gene regulation. This gene encodes a protein containing two conserved tandem RNA recognition motifs. Similar proteins in other species function as RNA-binding proteins and play central roles in posttranscriptional gene regulation. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene.

Description: HNRPUL1 is a nuclear RNA-binding protein of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) family. This protein binds specifically to adenovirus E1B-55kDa oncoprotein. It may play an important role in nucleocytoplasmic RNA transport, and its function is modulated by E1B-55kDa in adenovirus-infected cells. This gene encodes a nuclear RNA-binding protein of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) family. Four transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Another variant has also been found, but its full-length nature has not been determined. This gene encodes a nuclear RNA-binding protein of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) family. Description: Chloride Intracellular Channel Protein 5 (CLIC5) is a single-pass membrane protein which belongs to the chloride channel CLIC family. It contains one GST C-terminal domain. Chloride intracellular channels are involved in chloride ion transport within various subcellular compartments. CLIC5 can insert into membranes and form selective ion channels regulated by actin that may transport chloride ions. It may play a role in the regulation of transepithelial ion absorption and secretion. CLIC5 specifically associates with the cytoskeleton of placenta microvilli. CLIC5 is required for the development and/or maintenance of the proper glomerular endothelial cell and podocyte architecture.

Description: Human Υ-Glutamylcyclotransferase belongs to the Transferases family, specifically the Aminoacyltransferase. Gamma-Glutamylcyclotransferase catalyzes the formation of 5-Pxoproline from Gamma-Glutamyl Dipeptides. It plays an important role in Glutathione Homeostasis. Gamma-Glutamylcyclotransferase induces the release of Cytochrome C from the mitochondria resulting in the induction of apoptosis.

Description: C21orf33 inhibits both estrogen- and heregulin-beta1-stimulated growth of breast cancer cells, and further suggests that growth inhibition induced in these cells by all-trans retinoic acid occurs via HES-1-mediated downregulation of E2F-1 expression. C21orf33 may also be a candidate protein involved in the pathogenesis of the brain deficit in DS.

Description: RRM1 is one of two non-identical subunits that constitute ribonucleoside-diphosphate reductase, an enzyme essential for the production of deoxyribonucleotides prior to DNA synthesis in S phase of dividing cells. Its gene is located in the imprinted gene domain of 11p15.5, an important tumor-suppressor gene region. Alterations in this region have been associated with the Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, Wilms tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, adrenocrotical carcinoma, and lung, ovarian, and breast cancer. Its gene may play a role in malignancies and disease that involve this region.Western blots using two different antibodies against two unique regions of this protein target confirm the same apparent molecular weight in our tests. This gene encodes one of two non-identical subunits which constitute ribonucleoside-diphosphate reductase, an enzyme essential for the production of deoxyribonucleotides prior to DNA synthesis in S phase of dividing cells. It is one of several genes located in the imprinted gene domain of 11p15.5, an important tumor-suppressor gene region. Alterations in this region have been associated with the Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, Wilms tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, adrenocrotical carcinoma, and lung, ovarian, and breast cancer. This gene may play a role in malignancies and disease that involve this region. This gene is oriented in a head-to-tail configuration with the stromal interaction molecule 1 gene (STIM1), with the 3' end of STIM1 situated 1.6 kb from the 5' end of this gene.
