Description: The LIM-only (LMO) proteins, LMO1 and LMO2, are nuclear factors that are characterized by a conserved LIM domain. The LIM domain consists of a cysteine-rich zinc-binding motif that is present in a variety of transcription factors, including the LIM homeobox (LHX) proteins expressed in the central nervous system and involved in cell differentiation. LMO1 and LMO2 are expressed in the adult CNS in a cell type-specific manner, where they are differentially regulated by neuronal activity and are involved in regulating the cellular differentiated phenotype of neurons. LMO2 lacks a specific DNA-binding homeobox domain but rather assembles into transcriptional regulatory complexes to mediate gene expression by interacting with the widely expressed nuclear LIM interactor (NLI). NLI, known also as CLIM-1, and the related protein CLIM-2, facilitate the formation of heteromeric LIM complexes and also enhance the nuclear retention of LIM proteins. LMO2 and the related protein LMO4 are expressed in thymic precursor cells. LMO4 is also expressed in mature T cells, cranial neural crest cells, somite, dorsal limb bud mesenchyme, motor neurons, and Schwann cell progenitors.

Description: Syntaxins were originally thought to be docking proteins, but have more recently been categorized as anchoring proteins that anchor themselves to the cytoplasmic surfaces of cellular membranes. Syntaxins bind to various proteins involved in exocytosis, including VAMPs (vesicle-associated membrane proteins), NSF (N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor), SNAPs (soluble NSF attachment proteins) and Synaptotagmin. Endobrevin, also designated VAMP-8 or ED, is a 100 amino acid single-pass type IV membrane protein that belongs to the synaptobrevin family. Similar in sequence to the synaptobrevins, endobrevin is abundantly expressed in kidney, moderately expressed in heart and spleen, and slightly expressed in brain, thymus and liver. Endobrevin interacts specifically with the SNAPs, most likely through an endobrevin-containing SNARE complex.

Description: Fibroblast growth factor 9 (FGF-9) is a mitogen and survival factor for nerve and mesenchymal cells. FGF-9 functions as an autocrine and paracrine factor to support the growth and survival of motor neurons and prostate tissue. FGF-9 expression in the gonad is also necessary for sex determination.

Description: Members of the NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T cells) family of transcription factors are related to NFkB/Rel proteins and form cooperative complexes with the AP-1 proteins, Fos and Jun, on DNA to regulate cytokine expression in T cells. NFAT proteins are widely expressed and alternatively modified to generate splice variants, and they are localized to both the cytosol (NFATc) and to the nucleus (NFATn). NFAT1, NFAT2, and NFAT4 are predominantly expressed in immune cells, and NFAT2 and NFAT3 are expressed at high levels in cardiac tissues. In addition to activating cytokine gene transcription, NFAT2 is also implicated in cardiac valve development, and NFAT3 is involved in cardiac hypertrophy. NFAT5 is detected in both immune and nonimmune cells and, like other NFAT proteins, contains a highly conserved Rel-like binding domain that mediates NFAT proteins associating with specific consensus sequences on DNA. NFAT proteins are activated by increases in intracellular calcium, which leads to the calmodulin-dependent phosphatase, calcineurin, dephosphorylating NFAT proteins. This activating event induces a conformational change in the protein structure that exposes the nuclear localization signal and facilitates the translocation of NFAT proteins from the cytosol into the nucleus.

Description: This antibody recognizes a protein of 25-26 kDa, identified as the bcl-2 α oncoprotein. It shows no cross-reaction with Bcl-x or Bax protein. Expression of bcl-2 α oncoprotein inhibits the programmed cell death (apoptosis). In most follicular lymphomas, neoplastic germinal centers express high levels of bcl-2 α protein, whereas the normal or hyperplastic germinal centers are negative. Consequently, this antibody is valuable when distinguishing between reactive and neoplastic follicular proliferation in lymph node biopsies. It may also be used in distinguishing between those follicular lymphomas that express bcl-2 protein and the small number in which the neoplastic cells are bcl-2 negative.

Description: FGL2 is a secreted protein that is similar to the beta- and gamma-chains of fibrinogen. The carboxyl-terminus of the encoded protein consists of the fibrinogen-related domains (FRED). The encoded protein forms a tetrameric complex which is stabilised by interchain disulfide bonds. It may play a role in physiologic functions at mucosal sites. It is constitutively expressed in cytotoxic T-cells. Lack of expression in other lymphoid- and nonlymphoid-derived cell lines suggested that expression of FGL2 may be restricted to lymphocytes. FGL2 is induced via a mechanism involving IFNG and components of the IFNG signaling pathway, including STAT1 and IRF1.

Description: This gene encodes a tumor suppressor protein that is ubiquitously expressed in normal tissues. In uveal melanomas, expression of this protein is silenced in rapidly metastasizing and metastatic tumor cells but has normal expression in slowly metastasizing or nonmetastasizing tumor cells. This protein may have a role in cell-cycle control by interacting with the Cdk1/cyclinB1 complex. This gene is located on chromosomal region8p22. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in the 8p arm is a common characteristic of many types of cancer. [provided by RefSeq].
