Description: Cysteine string proteins (CSPs) are synaptic vesicle-associated, secretory vesicle proteins that are involved in Ca²⁺-regulated exocytosis of synaptic vesicles and modulation of presynaptic transmembrane calcium fluxes in neuroendocrine and endocrine cell types. CSP contains a J-domain that binds HSP 70/HSC 70 chaperone ATPases and a membrane-targeting, palmitoylated cysteine-rich string region. CSPs may act as molecular chaperones in synapses, and mediate conformational folding of components of the vesicular exocytotic machinery. CSP is involved in the fine tuning of neurotransmission through its interaction with receptor-coupled trimeric GTP binding proteins (G proteins) and N-type Ca²⁺ channels. Two variants of CSP have been described: CSP1; and the 31 amino acid, C-terminally truncated isoform, CSP2. Subcellular fractionation of insulinoma cells shows CSP1 in granular fractions, while the membrane and cytosol fractions contain predominantly CSP2. The fractions also contain additional proteins, presumably CSP dimers. Furthermore, in various mammalian cell lines (including rat brain) CSP1 expression predominates CSP2 expression.

Description: Secretagogin (SCGN) is a secreted calcium-binding protein that is found in the cytoplasm; a small proportion is associated with secretory granules and membrane fractions. SCGN contains six EF-hand domains, related to calbindin D-28K and calretinin. SCGN is thought to be involved in KCL-stimulated calcium flux and cell proliferation SCGN can be detected in human serum after ischemic neuronal damage. SCGN may function to negatively control growth and differentiation rates and, thus, indirectly inhibit cell replication.

Description: Involved in calcium induced regulation of ion channel and activation of the map kinase signaling pathway. May represent an important signaling intermediate between neuropeptide activated receptors or neurotransmitters that increase calcium flux and the downstream signals that regulate neuronal activity. Interacts with the SH2 domain of Grb2. May phosphorylate the voltage-gated potassium channel protein Kv1.2. Its activation is highly correlated with the stimulation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase activity. Involved in osmotic stress-dependent SNCA 'Tyr-125' phosphorylation.

Description: Hydrosart® membranes are stabilised cellulose based membranes that have been optimised for the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industry. It is a stable polymer that features a broad pH range. Hydrosart® is also extremely hydrophilic, making it non-protein binding, virtually non-foul and has extremely high flux. Membrane regeneration, storage and depyrogenation can be accomplished by using NaOH even at elevated temperatures. These features make Hydrosart® an ideal membrane for biological applications.

Description: Members of the 'frizzled' gene family encode 7-transmembrane domain proteins that are receptors for Wnt signaling proteins. The Frizzled 5 protein is believed to be the receptor for the Wnt5A ligand. Frizzled 5 has been reported to be expressed in foetal kidney, foetal and adult liver, foetal lung, and adult pancreas. ESTs have been isolated from bone, liver/spleen, placenta, and prostate libraries. Frizzled 5 was cloned from a retina cDNA library. Receptor for Wnt proteins. Component of the Wnt-Fzd-LRP5-LRP6 complex that triggers beta-catenin signaling through inducing aggregation of receptor-ligand complexes into ribosome-sized signalosomes. The beta-catenin canonical signaling pathway leads to the activation of disheveled proteins, inhibition of GSK-3 kinase, nuclear accumulation of beta-catenin and activation of Wnt target genes. A second signaling pathway involving PKC and calcium fluxes has been seen for some family members, but it is not yet clear if it represents a distinct pathway or if it can be integrated in the canonical pathway, as PKC seems to be required for Wnt-mediated inactivation of GSK-3 kinase. Both pathways seem to involve interactions with G-proteins. May be involved in transduction and intercellular transmission of polarity information during tissue morphogenesis and/or in differentiated tissues. Coreceptor along with RYK of Wnt proteins, such as WNT1.

Description: SELK Antibody: SELK is a selenoprotein, containing a selenocysteine residue at its active site. SELK is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum and is highly expressed in the heart, where it may function as an antioxidant. SELK can bind to proteins such as the ER-associated degradation (ERAD) components p97 ATPase, Derlin-1 and -2, and SelS as well as proteins in the oligosaccharyltransferase complex, suggesting that SELK may be involved in the Derlin-dependent ERAD of glycosylated misfolded proteins. SELK is also thought to be important in Ca2+ flux in immune cells, and is cleaved by m-calpain in resting macrophages. When these macrophages are activated through different Toll-like receptors, this cleavage is inhibited

Description: The protein encoded by this gene, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family 1, is an integral plasma membrane protein which binds melanin-concentrating hormone. The encoded protein can inhibit cAMP accumulation and stimulate intracellular calcium flux, and is probably involved in the neuronal regulation of food consumption. Although structurally similar to somatostatin receptors, this protein does not seem to bind somatostatin.

Description: EFHD2 Antibody: EFHD2, also known as Swiprosin-1 or SWS1, is an EF-hand and coiled-coil-containing adaptor protein that plays a role in lymphocyte physiology. EFHD2 exhibits the highest expression in CD8+ T cells and immature B cells. It provides a membrane scaffold that is required for the Syk-, SLP-65-, and PLCgamma2-dependent B-cell receptor (BCR)-induced calcium flux. EFHD2 may also regulate BCR-induced immature and primary B-cell apoptosis. It controls spontaneous apoptosis through the regulation of BCL2L1 abundance. Also, EFHD2 plays a role as negative regulator of the canonical NF-kappa B-activating branch.
