Crystal violet has been used to determine cell viability. It has been used in the staining of cells for the quantification of cellular migration.
Crystal violet can be used for DNA visualisation in agarose gels. The dye is used only in the presence of high concentrations of DNA. Crystal violet is also used for the staining of bacteria in gram staining technique. It is also used for the staining of plant chromosomes. Crystal violet helps in colorimetric measurement of cell viability.
