Sodium sulfide hydrate is used as an oxygen scavenger in water treatment, bleaching agent in textile industry, desulfurising and as a dechlorinating agent and in leather industry, sulfonation and sulfomethylation agent in chemical industry.
It is involved in the production of rubber chemicals and sulfur dyes. It is also used to prepare 3-nitroaniline from 1,3-dinitrobenzene and thioethers from alkyl halide. It plays an important role in other applications such as ore flotation, oil recovery, making dyes, and detergent. In addition, it is used in pulp and paper industry in the Kraft process.
