It is used for the preparation of electrically conducting glasses. Used to make solutions for the separation of RNA from DNA by density gradient centrifugation.
Cesium chloride (CsCl) is used to treat various kinds of cancers. Oral and intravenous administration of CsCl is linked with seizures, cardiotoxicity, syncope and death. In rats, CsCl reactions displays several variations in blood chemistry, that are categorised by a reduction of total protein content, pH, an increase in the level of urea, creatinine, glucose and total hemoglobin. Solutions may contain slight haze.
