SN-38 is the active metabolite of irinotecan, a derivative of the alkaloid camptothecin and acts as a potent inhibitor of DNA topoisomerase I. SN-38 is a more potent topopisomerase I inhibitor and more cytotoxic to HT-29 colon cancer cells (IC50 = 8.8 nM) compared to irinotecan (IC50 >100 nM).
- SN-38 is in a form of crystalline solid
- λmax at 224, 267, 331, 368, 383 nm
