β-D-Glc-(1→4)-D-Glc, 4-β-D-glucopyranosyl-D-glueopyranose, β-Cellobiose, Cellose, (2R,3R,4R,5R)-2,3,5,6-Tetrahydroxy-4-(((2S,3R,4S,5S,6R)-3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)oxy)hexanal, 4-O-β-D-Glucopyranosyl-D-glucopyranose
Cellobiose is a disaccharide composed of two glucose molecules. These are β-1,4-glycosidically linked. It is reducing sugar, which is readily soluble in polar solvents such as water and ethanol. D-Cellobiose is a substrate of β-glucosidase.
- Refractive Index: 1.65 (Predicted)
- pKa: 12.39
Cell Culture media supplement. D-(+)-Cellobiose is used to differentiate bacteria based on carbohydrate fermentation abilities. It is a β-glucosidase substrate. Also used as as a chemical raw material and for foods, as a low-sweetness sugar.
Soluble in water 4% (clear colorless solution); insoluble in alcohol and ether.
