Mannose is a sugar monomer of the aldohexose series of carbohydrates.
D-(+)-Mannose, a C-2 epimer of D-glucose, is used in the formation of glycan structure and glycosylation. D-Mannose has been used in a study to assess the synthesis of a family of amphiphilic glycopolymers. It has also been used in a study to investigate the early detection of bronchiolitis obliterans after lung transplantation.
D-mannose is sold as a naturopathic remedy for urinary tract infections, and it is claimed to work through the disruption of adherence of bacteria in the urinary tract. It can also be used to study the effects of exogenous mannose on in vitro processes such as glycosylation.
Soluble in water (50 g/ml - clear colorless solution).
Caution: Research Use Only (RUO).
