3M™ Hydrated-Sponge uses simplified packaging to minimise handling and preparation, and reduces waste.

  • Ready-to-use, pre-hydrated sponges for easy and convenient environmental and food sample collection
  • Durable sponge withstands scrubbing
  • Sponge bag with write-on label for ease in labelling samples
  • Includes two decontaminated gloves for safety and convenience

This biocide-free cellulose sponge is pre-hydrated with diluent for convenient sample collection. The biocide-free cellulose sponge does not interfere with microorganism viability within 48 hours of refrigeration for Salmonella and E. coli and 72 hours for Listeria. Two, universal-fit, polyethylene gloves are included for convenience, safety and to facilitate aseptic handling. The cellulose material is durable, absorbent and effectively holds and releases the sample to minimize excess dripping.

The sponge also comes with a 5×9" 3M™ Sample Bag that will accommodate 30 oz./0,89 L capacity to hold the sponge for safe, convenient transportation to the lab. The bag is double laminated to ensure strength, puncture resistance, and durability when blending or transporting. Wire ties ensure a secure closure and a blue top and large white write-on area helps identify the bag.

The writable area is ideal for documenting data, date, time of collection, and other information for accuracy, efficiency and easy identification. Both the sample bag and sponge are decontaminated through gamma irradiation to maintain organism viability and long shelf life. This product is made in the USA with globally sourced materials and is ISO 9001:2008 certified for quality assurance.

The use of Neutralisng Buffer is advised for surface testing for the presence of microorganisms that may occur on dairy and food equipment disinfected with chlorine or quaternary ammonium compounds. It is capable of inactivating the bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect of chlorine and quaternary ammonium composites.

Neutralising these chemicals is crucial in accurately detecting the presence of potentially harmful microorganisms. Using Neutralising Buffer in the microbiological examination of surfaces in standard methods to test dairy products and foods and is also recommended as well as for the digestion and decontamination of mycobacterial specimens.
